Dear friends, colleagues!
The total reluctance of the government to keep the Law of Ukraine «About protection of animals from cruel treatment» forces us to turn to civilized european community with one goal - to stop meaningless barbarous murders of homeless animals that keep happening even in those cities, where local authorities have accepted the programmes as for reduction of population of these poor animals by humane methods. Unfortunately all such programmes are being accepted only for the reason of getting the financing, which is easily sacked.
We believe that it is impossible to hold football matches of EURO 2012 in such a situation, as such country in no way can be considered european.
We are asking you to support our appeal to the President of Ukrainian Football Federation, Mr. G.M.Surkis in order to draw his attention and his funds in favour of implementation of the Law of Ukraine "On the Protection of Animals from Brutal Treatment" regarding the treatment of homeless animals and also building of european-like animal shelters, primarily in the cities where EURO-2012 will be held.
Dear Grigoriy Michailovich!
There is no reason to consider Ukraine a european country unless there will be background for implementation of the Law of Ukraine «About protection of animals from cruel treatment», which was accepted in 21.02.2006 as a part of National programme of adaptation of Ukrainian law to the European Union law.
The reluctance of the ukrainian government to keep the Law of Ukraine «About protection of animals from cruel treatment» has led to the fact that the european community being highly concerned with the situation before the EURO-2012 has appealed to Michel Platini with the request to stop the killings of homeless animals in Ukraine. The movement was headed by the famous racer Michael Schumacher , he was supported by Brigitte Bardot, who said that she will not visit Ukraine unless the issue with the homeless animals will be solved in a humane way. Many european sportsmen have also signed the petition, see www.care2.com.
Assoсiation of Animal Protection Organizations of Ukraine is right now completing the development of the National programme of animal protection in Ukraine concept. Implementation of this programme is impossible without sponsor financial support, as the background for its successful accomplishment is the creation of the necessary resource base which is totally new to Ukraine.
Therefore we are asking you to take part in the development of above-mentioned National Programme and help in building of european-like animal shelters, primarily in the cities where EURO-2012 will be held.
The president of
the Association of Animal Protection Organizations of Ukraine (AZOU)
