To General Prosecutor of Ukraine|
Dear Mr. General Prosecutor!
We are asking you to interfere the situation regarding violation of the Law of Ukraine "About protection of animals from cruel treatment".
On 19.07.2010 unidentified travelling zoo stopped in Yuzhnoukrainsk, Mykolayivska region. Over 50 various animals are being kept there. The owner of the zoo doesn’t have any documents as for the origin of these animals. There is no veterinarian. Half of the animals are distinct and are listed in the Red Book.
The owner of the zoo doesn’t feed his animals according to a certain diet and doesn’t have storage facilities for the products. Animals are kept in metal cages, which are meant for transportation, they heat up to 60 degrees C and cause heat strokes among them.
Animals are constantly under stress and exorbitant physical pressure. There is not enough space, natural light, conditioning and ability to interact with other animals.
Paragraph 4 of Ukrainian Law "On the Protection of Animals from Brutal Treatment" considers the conditions of animal maintenance which do not meet their biological, specific and individual needs as a cruel animal treatment.
Moreover, this zoo may be considered as a promotion of cruel treatment among children, as they appear to be its main visitors.
We are therefore asking you to confiscate the animals from the zoo and to hold the owners liable to criminal responsibility.
